Moonlight in Colorado - karaoke
Last year was my first time living in Seoul since moving to the U.S. in 1991. I rented an apartment near my old high school, and as I watched students in the same uniforms I once wore, I questioned why I left, stayed away, and returned. After the nomadic phase of my life, Colorado became the anchor—a random choice in some ways. When I told my mother we were visiting Denver for a relocation interview, she excitedly said, “Colorado is such a beautiful place!” Her enthusiasm warmed me to the idea, and before I knew it, I had settled there, started a family, and spent 17 years—the longest I’ve lived anywhere, even longer than in Seoul. I read comments on YouTube’s Korean version of “Moonlight on the Colorado,” where many from my mother’s generation still long for and romanticize Colorado as if it were their hometown. I explored this phenomenon of longing for unknown place through this project.
